WRITING

 

Cara Reichel is the co-bookwriter on numerous shows created with Peter Mills, including their acclaimed musical The Hello Girls.  Currently, they are working on a new musical, Declaration, through a National Endowment for the Arts commission with Prospect Musicals. 

 

She is co-bookwriter for The Oscar Micheaux Project, created with jazz artist Alphonso Horne, playwright Jesse L. Kearney, and Mills.  The show was developed in the Village Theatre Festival of New Musicals (2024), the NAMT Festival of New Musicals (2023), and at Goodspeed Musicals' Johnny Mercer Writers Grove. 

 

Cara was commissioned by Theatrical Rights Worldwide to assemble songs and create the book for a new, female-forward juke-box musical, The Olympians, which has been produced around the world.

 

In 2024, she adapted Alan Lightman's novel Mr g into a play, which she directed site-specifically in the Princeton University chapel. 

 

She is bookwriter for You Captured My Heart, created with lyricist Marion Adler and composer/lyricist Peter Foley. 

 

Reichel has participated in the Rhinebeck Writers' Retreat, was a 2019 Fellow at the Women's International Study Center (Santa Fe, NM) and received a prestigious 2015 Bogliasco Fellowship to conduct research and write Death for Five Voices in Italy.

As a high school student, Cara wrote and illustrated a children’s book, A Stone Promise, published by Landmark Editions Inc. (1991).
